Today i managed to get out for the first track day in over 4 years of the car being off the road.

To say i was nervous was an understatement, i didn't
sleep much last night and woke at 4am before leaving for the track at 5am, unloading the car and business going through scrutineering was a bit surreal. When my group was called up i was determined to take it real easy but after the first few laps it just seemed to all come back to me and i started to go a bit quicker finishing with a 1:06.208 second lap.
In the first couple sessions i was quiet worried with the car and in the first session the drivers side brake ducting come loose and a section of it get destroyed.
I also had the dash rpm wrong so it was saying 7000rpm when i was doing 3500 or there abouts which meant i was changing gears by noise.
Also had terrible trouble with the radiator temperature and saw 112 deg C on the radiator exit at a couple of stages, as the temperature gets higher the computer cuts out ignition and over 100 deg C it wont rev past 4000 rpm.

The overflow bottle had a lot of grit in it so i need to flush the cooling system and also look at making up some ducting for the cooler and radiator to hopefully fix the problem. In the build i moved the cooler and also removed the clutch fan and just have a thermo fan. It is reaching the high temps when at full pace so the fan wont really be doing much at that speed anyway i would think.
Had to make some damper adjustment after the rear was very loose, turns out i had one side set to 12 and the other 3.

Also simple things like the seat belt wasn't adjusted and when i did adjust it the lap part of the belt is too high and i need to get a new one with a crotch strap. I ran out of fuel because i hadn't finished off the sensor wiring for the fuel level, seemed to go through 40ltrs of fuel in 4 sessions which is a lot. 

The oil pressure and fuel pressure  sensors were not working as well so i need to fix those.
Was pretty happy to just have these minor issues and see the car do a 1.04.2 lap in the last session.
My PB was a 1.02 (think flat) although a friend mentioned 1.02.2 today so that might be it, not sure.
It would not be difficult to knock a heap more time off with a new set of tyres, an alignment and fixing a few of the issues and it feels as though with the new setup it would do quick laps consistently.

Firewall Alternator Power Connector

This afternoon I was pretty happy with myself. After 2 weeks of doing nothing much aside from things to do with other then car i managed to get into the shed and watch the Wakefield 300 and then V8s whilst fiddling with the car. I managed to get the Alternator firewall connector drilled and pretty much fitted as well as changing the rear of the power panel. I had to do this as after deciding to go with the Tyco isolation switch I needed to change the wiring around a bit.

Trackday Troubles - Blown Intercooler Hose

I was lucky enough to attend the Macquarie Racing trackday at Wakefield park, was a fantastic day. I had planned to shake down the car after the clutch install and with the previous overheating issues that I had experienced. The first session the temps were around 24deg with little to no wind, the car performed well with temps very stable after 8 laps at around 1:04 second mark. It was just me and two other cars out of the track, I came back in to check on things and the tyre pressures. The second session I wanted to continue to check the car and if all was OK I would duck out at lunch time and put on the 3 spare tyres I have had sitting around for about 5years, not the best to set times on but with the rears now without tread I needed to change them over. Unfortunately about the 3 rd lap in the intercooler hose blew, trying all of the shops in Goulburn I was not able to get a replacement 2in to 3in 90deg elbow silicone joiner.

Trailer tie downs

After a recent trip to Wakefield, driving back the rear tow down had come loose and the car was only secured by the two front tie downs. When I got home and realized I could see that the car had moved back about 30 cm and onto where I had secured the splitter using the remaining strapping from the now loose tie down. Had I hit the brakes hard there was nothing stopping it from moving forward. I have been using the following method for some time which is, two tie downs off reinforced front tie down points on the car to custom eye bolts on the draw bar. One one strap across and through the rear diff cradle.  This method  has worked well up until now, with 11h trips to Phillip Island and having minimal issues, I think a mix of tiredness and not tightening the straps correctly have caused the issue.
